History

Wulff Funeral Home provides funeral and cremation services in St. Paul, Minnesota. For more than 130 years, the people of St. Paul have placed their trust in us to deliver caring service in their time of need.

The beginning of our legacy

August Wulff, a 24-year-old German immigrant, founded his 1st funeral home in 1884. It is now the oldest continuing business on St. Paul’s east side. A cabinet maker by trade, August embraced his calling in a rapidly growing community.

There were no funeral homes then as we know them today, so August served the surrounding communities from his home at East 7th and Bradley Avenue (now Payne). He made his own caskets and transported them by horse with wagon (or by sleigh in the winter) to the people he served.

As more people needed the assistance of Wulff Family Mortuary, August decided to add a new location. The new location quickly became known as the Wulff Block in the neighborhood. August changed the business name to A.L. Wulff and Son Undertakers when his son, Arthur, joined the firm in 1911.

Our tradition continues

Foyer at Wulff Funeral HomeLater in 1934, Arthur’s son, Owen, joined the staff of the family business. In 1964, Wulff Family Mortuary moved to a more central location for the convenience of the ever-expanding east side community. The new funeral home, Crestwood Park Mortuary, located at 1485 White Bear Ave., is still an attractive, modern and spacious facility.

In 1970, Gregory Wulff became the 4th generation to join the family-run funeral homes in St. Paul. Under his direction, the business grew dramatically to encompass more communities, including the purchase of Godbout Mortuary at 560 West 7th in 1988, and then in 1990, a new funeral home, Woodlane Mortuary, was erected at 2195 Woodlane Drive.

Today, we practice the same values on which our funeral home was originally founded. Our welcoming St. Paul funeral home staff is here to give you personalized service. Although much has changed, throughout our history we’ve continued to lead and innovate while maintaining a commitment to our community.
